Abstract

CROSS SECTIONAL STUDY OF IMPROVING MEDICATION ADHERENCE AND MINIMIZING ERROR IN PRESCRIBTION

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Any preventable event that may cause or lead to inappropriate medication use or patient harm while the medication is in the control of the health-care professional, patient, or consumer. We are gathering patient information on their prescriptions from five community pharmacies for this study. evaluating and validating the prescription in order to identify the problem and reduce the medication errors. Enhancing the health of the patient should be the primary concern. Material and Methods: Study site-5 Community pharmacies in Coimbatore., Study period-3months, Study design-A cross sectional studies. Inclusion and exclusion criteria are attached below in our article. Results: We have analyzed 352 prescriptions from 5 community pharmacy in Coimbatore out of that 16 prescriptions are founded as errors. To minimize and enhance the patient health of the patient. Disscusion: In our study male patients (50.2%) were more
comparing with females (49.7%). Out of 352 prescription most commonly prescribed drug category are proton pump inhibitors (27%), NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) (24%), Ant diabetic drugs (21%), Hypolipidemic-agents (19%), Anti histaminic agents (19%), Anti-hypertensive agents (14%) and Antibiotics (17%). Maximum number of patients were in age group between 66-75 years (48.2%) and among 352 cases male 177 (50.2%) and female 175 (49.7%). Conclusion: Our study focused on improving medication adherence and minimizing errors in prescription, with a particular emphasis on drug categories, patient demographics, and potential drug interactions. Demographic distribution, Prescription Patterns, Drug Interactions, Implications.
