ABSTRACT

One of the most important therapeutic plants is Catharanthus roseus. It has significant medical potential that should be thoroughly investigated. In the current investigation, several extracts were examined for their phytochemical composition and biological potential (antimicrobial, antioxidant, antigenotoxic, and antimutagenic). Numerous chemical compounds that may be responsible for a variety of pharmacological actions were identified in these phytochemical analyses. The extract of flowers has to be studied further. The petals of flowers contained the highest concentration of phenol. The highest level of antioxidant activity is identified in flower petals using the DPPH assay. For the extraction and separation of chemicals from medicinal plants, deep eutectic solvents, a novel class of environmentally benign solvents, have gained interest in chemistry,
medicine, and other domains. Flavonoids, glycosides, phenolics, and reducing sugars have the potential to be useful against human pathogens, especially those that cause intestinal infection, in the phytochemical test when alkaloid compounds are present. Any biochemical process relies on free radicals, which are also crucial to aerobic life and metabolism and play a dual role in human bodies as harmful and advantageous species. According to this study, Catharanthus roseus exhibits complementary antioxidant action.

Keywords: Catharanthus roseus, antioxidant, flowers, phytochemical, DPPH, phenolic content, flavonoid content.
