Abstract

SYNERGISTIC STUDY ON LACTOBACILLUS PLANTARUM PN05 ISOLATED IN CORIANDRUM SATIVUM AND ANTIBIOTICS

Nguyen Ngo, Tri Le, Canh Le and Tu Nguyen*

ABSTRACT

Antibiotics have been the main therapy to combat these infections. However, the antibiotic resistance is rapidly increasing because of the drug usage without the medical doctor’s advice. Therefore, it is very necessary to find alternative antimicrobial therapies against these infections. The alternative therapy not only reduces the dose of antibiotic required and the resistance of pathogen but also increase the action. We determined lactic acid bacteria in Coriandrum sativum using a kit of API 50 CHL and 16S sRNA. The synergistic effects of combinations of some antibiotics such as ceftriaxone, cotrimaxazone, tetracycline and sulbactam in conjugation with cell free supernatant, bacteriocin of plant – originated lactic acid bacteria were evaluated in terms of size of zone of inhibition by agar-well diffusion assay (in-vitro). Lactobacillus plantarum PN05 was showed antimicrobial activities on Cadida albicans, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus sciuri, Serratia marcescens, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio paraheamolyticus, Vibrio haryei. The synergistic effects of these combinations against some indicator pathogens pointed towards possible in-vivo use of Lactobacillus plantarum with ceftriaxone, cotrimaxazole and tetracycline against Salmonella typhi. For Candida albicans, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio paraheamolyticus, cell free supernatant and bacteriocin of Lactobacillus plantarum could be adjucted with tetracycline. For Staphylococcus scuiri, Lactobacillus plantantarum had synergistic action with sulbactam. The antimicrobial efficiency of combinations indicates that these adjunct therapies may provide the basis to find the alternative strategies against indicator pathogens.
