Abstract

A REVIEW ON FAST DISSOLVING DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

Suraj B. Giri* and Ass. Prof. Prachi A. Kanawade

ABSTRACT

In dosage forms, solid orals gain maximum popularities, about 85%, because of many advantages over others. The desire of improved palatability in orally administered products has prompted the development of numerous formulations with improved performance and acceptability. This system was used initially in confectionery and oral care markets in the form of breath strips. Recently, large number of pharmaceutical industries are interested in this formulation due to high consumer acceptance. FDTs formulations contain super disintegrants to enhance the disintegration rate of a tablet in the buccal cavity. FDTs have advantages such as easy portability and manufacturing, accurate dosing, good chemical and physical stability and an ideal alternative for geriatric and paediatric patients. FDTs have disintegrated quickly, absorb faster so, in vitro drug release time improve and this property of drugs (dosage form) enhanced bioavailability. Some tablets are designed to dissolve in saliva remarkably fast, within a few seconds, and are true fast- dissolving tablets. Others contain agents to enhance the rate of tablet disintegration in the oral cavity, and are more appropriately termed fast-disintegrating tablets, as they may take up to a minute to completely disintegrate.

Keywords: Fast Dissolving Tablet, Superdisintegrant, Bioavailability, Excipients.
