Abstract

A REVIEW OF THE IMPLANTABLE DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM

Konduru Viswaroopa* and P. Venkata Anudeep

ABSTRACT

Implantable drug delivery systems have gained significant attention in the field of medicine due to their potential to revolutionize the treatment of various diseases and conditions. This abstract aims to provide an overview of the technology, applications, and advantages of implantable drug delivery systems. These systems involve the implantation of a small device within the patient's body, typically in a targeted location, allowing for the continuous or controlled release of drugs. The device can be programmed to deliver drugs at specific times and dosages, eliminating the need for frequent injections or oral administration. The applications of implantable drug delivery systems are vast, ranging from chronic disease management to targeted cancer therapeutics. These systems have shown particular promise in
conditions such as diabetes, where precise insulin delivery is required. By providing a continuous and accurate supply of medication, implantable drug delivery systems can improve patient compliance, reduce side effects, and enhance treatment efficiency.

Keywords: Implantable, Drug delivery, Controlled release, Biocompatible, Nano technology, Pharmacokinetics, Targeted therapy.
