ABSTRACT
Colon-targeted drug delivery systems have gained a great deal of attention as potential carriers for the local treatment of colonic diseases with reduced systemic side effects and also for the enhanced oral delivery of various therapeutics. The rising need for a more patient-friendly drug administration system and the recent expansion of the global pharmaceutical market for biologics highlights the value of colonic drug delivery as a no-invasive delivery method for macro molecules Given that they are patient and self-administrable, colon-targeted drug delivery system (CTDDS) for macromolecules have therapeutic advantages including increased patient compliance and lower costs. Primary approaches for CTDDS (Colon targeted drug delivery system), include prodrugs and bacterial enzyme-dependent
colonic DDS. The novel approaches of CTDDS, which includes pressure controlled colonic delivery capsules (PCDCS), CODES, and osmotic drug delivery are specific technique.
