ABSTRACT
Acharya Sushruta defined Bhagandaraas one of the Ashtamaharoga (eight great ailments) that are difficult to cure.It is a very obnoxious condition from the view point of patient and a constant source of anxiety for sufferer. Recurrent nature of this disease makes it more and more difficult for treatment as it is anotorious disease occurring in the Ano- rectal region which may extends up to the genitalia or over beyond. This disease is extensively documented in Ayurvedic writings. Acharya Sushruta has given detailed description of Bhagandara regarding its Nidana, Samprapti, Bheda, Lakshana, Sadhyata-asadhyata, Updravaand Chikitsa. The prevalence rate of anorectal disorders is gradually increasing day by day due to disturbed life style pattern. It appears as Pidikasurrounding the Guda Pradesha at first, known as BhgandaraPidika, and when it assumes Pakva stage, and then is known as Bhagandara. It is the recurring character of the condition that makes therapy increasingly challenging. Ksharasutra therapy is big revolution in the field of Anorectal and Colorectal surgery introduced by Acharya Sushruta. Numerous studies have lauded its effectiveness and is a successfully proven minimal invasive technique for Bhagandara Vyadhi.
