ABSTRACT
Introduction: Pharmacist must be the owner of the pharmacy of which he is the holder. No pharmacy can remain open in the absence of its owner, unless he or she is regularly replaced. After the death of the pharmacist, the management period cannot exceed two years. In Senegal, several pharmacies continue to operate after their owners death. The objective of our work was to study conditions of management of pharmacies after the holder death in Dakar region and its suburbs. Methodology: A survey was carried out on a sample of fourteen (14) pharmacies under management after the holder death, provided by the College of Pharmacists. Data collection was related to heirs and managers status, and also management period. Results: It appears from our work that 76.9% of pharmacies had non-pharmacist heirs, compared to 23.1% of pharmacies which had pharmacist heirs. 69.2% of pharmacies had to recruit managers, compared to 30.8% who had not recruited. Regarding employment relations between heirs and managers, 61.5% of pharmacies had managers with an employment contract, and registered by the College of pharmacy. Management periods varied, with pharmacies opening five (5) years after their owners death. The minimum of management period after death was one (1) year, with a maximum of ten (10) years. Conclusion: Management period after death is not respected. Deadlines noted varied, with a minimum of one (1) year and a maximum of ten (10) years. The regulatory authority should become more involved, for better compliance with personal exercise obligation.
