Abstract

REVIEW ON NATURAL TREATMENT FOR LEPROSY

ABSTRACT

Leprosy is a chronic glaucomatous infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae species.[39] It is still endemic in many region of the world and public health problem in Brazil.[40] It is contagious and non-fatal infectious disease. It is also called Hansen‟s disease is an bacterial infection cause by slow growing bacteria called Mycobacterium leprae.[41] M. leprae is a etiologic agent identify by Norwegian doctor Gerhard-Henrik Armauer Hansen in feb 28, 1873 which cause chronic infection disease called Hansen disease. India is considered the point of origin leprosy disease dating to 2000 B.C. M.leprosy has polymorphic neuro-cutaneous manifestation strongly related with host immune response. The aim of review is discuss this dichotomy in light of the current knowledge of cytokines, T-helper cell involved in each presentation of leprosy. Leprosy patient are usually rejection from society can poor quality of life. In leprosy, earliest and main involvement is of skin and nerves. Padma vibhushan Dr.Baba Amte and Sadhanatai Amte was an indian social worker and activist his work for the empowerment of people suffering from leprosy patient. In 1949, Amte founded Anandwan, an ashram dedicated to treatment, rehabilitation of leprosy patient. Shri Manohar Diwan, started service of leprosy patient near Wardha first non-missionary indian work. India has the greatest no. of cases 2 to 3 million people of leprosy with Brazil second and Indonesia third number.
