ASTHMA TRIGGERS, MECHANISMS, AND PREVENTION STRATEGIES - A REVIEW

Darshita Makhija and *Pavankumar Wankhade

ABSTRACT

Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease that affects the airways, causing inflammation and narrowing, making it difficult to breathe. It is a common condition affecting millions of people worldwide, with a prevalence of approximately 339 million people. It is a complex disease that is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, and it can present in various forms, from mild to severe. The most common symptoms of asthma include coughing, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath, and these symptoms can be triggered by factors such as allergens, respiratory infections, exercise, and stress. Asthma can have a significant impact on an individual's quality of life, and it is associated with increased healthcare utilization and costs. While there is no cure for asthma, it can be effectively managed through a combination of medication and lifestyle changes. Medications used to treat asthma include bronchodilators, which help to open the airways, and anti-inflammatory drugs, which reduce inflammation in the airways. In addition, lifestyle changes such as avoiding triggers and maintaining a healthy weight can help to manage asthma symptoms. Early diagnosis and effective management of asthma are crucial in preventing complications such as respiratory failure and even death. Therefore, it is important for individuals with asthma to work closely with their healthcare providers to develop an individualized treatment plan and to manage their symptoms effectively.
