Ilakkiya G.*, Gunavathisree N. and Kontham Jyothi
ABSTRACT Statin is also known as an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor which acts by binding and blocking HMG-CoA reductase (3-hydroxy-3- methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase) leading to a decrease in bad cholesterol such as low-density lipoprotein, triglyceride, lower total cholesterol and increases good cholesterol i.e., high-density lipoprotein.[1],[2] Whereas HMG-CoA reductase involves in facilitates the conversion of HMG-CoA (3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A) into mevalonate, a pivotal step that involves a four-electron oxidoreduction reaction.[3] Keywords: .
