ABSTRACT

The study was done examine the effect of Musa acuminata stem extract on the histomorphology of liver, kidney, and spleen in phenylhydrazine induced-anaemia in Wistar rats using H & E stain. Thirty-six Wistar rats were divided into six (6) groups for this study, with three (3) in each group having a complete set of the same sex (male or female). Spleen control revealed normal cellular profile of granulocyte, splenic arteries, white pulp and red pulp (plate A) compared to the induced rat group administered with PHZ (plate B). Kidney control revealed normal cellular profile of well distributed renal corpuscle with distinct glomerula, distal and convulated tubules as well as collecting ducts and loop of henles (plate G) compared to the induced rat group administered with PHZ (plate H). Liver control revealed normal cellular profile of portal triad, numerous hepatocytes and central vein (plate M) compared to the induced rat group administered with PHZ showing vascular congestion, peri and portal inflammation, vacuolation and pyknotic nucleus as result of cellular damages and reaction from the induction agents inflicting intracellular damages on the hepatic profile as shown in (plate N). Noteworthy is the extract's histopathological restoration effect on vital organs such as the liver, kidney, and spleen.
