ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to investigate the antiurolithiatic properties of “Kalanchoe pinnata” leaf extract in vitro using various in vitro models and to assess its inhibitory effect on in vitro crystallization. Fresh leaves were extracted using ethanol extracts. A homogeneous precipitation process and dissolving bags made of egg membrane were used to create artificial stones. After incubating the dissolution models for 72 hours, the content was evaluated using spectrophotometric and HPLC techniques. The results revealed that “Kalanchoe pinnata” extract had a superior capacity to dissolve calcium oxalate, whereas Cystone Standard demonstrated better demineralization of calcium phosphate. Cystone had a substantial inhibitory effect in the nucleation experiment, but “Kalanchoe pinnata” extract had a considerable inhibitory effect in both the nucleation and aggregation assays. This research will serve to promote in vitro investigations for scientific documentation, as well as to comprehend the molecular process of litholysis and identify the phytochemicals responsible for dissolving or disintegrating renal calculi. Finally, the “Kalanchoe pinnata” extract demonstrated considerable anti-urolithiatic action.
