Abstract

DIAGNOSIS OF THE DISEASE WITH RELATION TO SHATKRIYAKALA – LITERARY REVIEW

Shyambala K. Bali*

ABSTRACT

Prevention is always first and major goal of ayurveda and after that second goal is to cure the disease. Ayurveda gives six stages in pathogenesis of disease which is known as Shatkriyakala. It is useful for diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the disease too. Conventional medicine uses valuable diagnostics tools to detect disease in early stage, such as blood tests and x-rays but they are able to detect disease only after it has become physically manifest e.g. elevated blood sugar. But Nothing happens all of a sudden, for that purpose to know the starting one must have the knowledge of Shatkriyakala. With the help of these six stages ayurvedic physician can diagnose the disease in early stage and it is easier to reverse the underlying imbalances. As Acharya said in importance of first stage which is Sanchay that “Chayaiv jayet doshm” in Ashtang Hrudya means in first stage we can balance the vitiated doshas in easy way. This literary study is aimed at diagnosis of disease with relation to Shatkriyakala. This study includes six stages with their characteristics and some examples.

Keywords: Shatkriyakala, Diagnosis, Stages of diseases, Prognosis, Prevention.
