ABSTRACT

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in diabetics, as well as the largest contributor to the direct and indirect expenses of diabetes. Current evidence-based recommendations promote a multifactorial strategy in diabetic patients, including pharmaceutical treatment for hyperglycaemia, hypertension, and dyslipidaemia as well as lifestyle changes. Worldwide, the prevalence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is much higher. Incidence rates for diabetes mellitus have increased dramatically over the last 30 years, and predictions indicate that these rates will continue to rise sharply. According to the Federation of International Diabetes updated forecasts, by 2035, there would be 591 million cases of DM worldwide (1 out of 10 people; 10%). Considering the increased burden of cardiovascular complications, there is an urgent need to improve the quality of care for diabetic patients. In this paper, we will discuss the need to improve the quality of healthcare among diabetic patients and approaches to manage the (CVD) considering the lifestyle and dietary pattern in suffering population.
