Abstract

A STUDY TO COMPARE THE EFFECTS OF PILATES VERSUS YOGA ON BALANCE AND COGNITION AMONG MIDDLE AGED PEOPLE

ABSTRACT

Background of The Study: Various line of treatment regimens were discussed earlier to deal with cognitive function and balance but the Pilates versus yoga was not compared in improving the cognitive function and balance. Aim of The Study: The aim of the study was to compare the effects of pilates versus yoga on balance and cognition among middle aged people. Objective of the study:  To evaluate the effect of pilates on balance and cognition among middle aged people  To evaluate the effect of yoga on balance and cognition among middle aged people  To compare the effect of pilates and yoga in balance and cognition among middle aged people. Methodology: It was an experimental study, which was conducted with 30 participants and were divided into two groups with 15 participants in each group. 15 subjects included in the group A were given pilates and the remaining 15 subjects included under the group B performed yoga. Outcome Measures: Berg balance scale, Montreal cognitive assessment scale. Result: The data collected were statistically analyzed by paired t-test. From the study, it was evident that pilates had significant improvement on balance and cognitive function. Conclusion: The study concluded that pilates group was having statistically significant improvement on balance and cognition among middle aged people when compared to yoga.
