ABSTRACT

Objective: The aim of the present study wascarried out to evaluate the in vitro anti-urolithiatic activity of the n- Hexane: Methanol (1:1) extract of the Bauhinia blakeana. Dunn., (Deva mandharam) on calcium oxalate crystals. Methods: The crude extract was prepared by maceration method and the extraction was done until all the compounds get extracted into the solution and solvent was evaporated by rotary evaporator. Extracts were stored for further analysis. Results: Flower extract of Bauhinia Blakeana. D., showed maximum efficiencies in the dissolution of the calcium oxalate crystals. Neeri tablet was used as the standard. This in vitro study has shown that the n- Hexane: Methanol (1:1) flower extract of Bauhinia Blakeana. D., has the similar anti-urolithiatic activity when compared with the standard. Conclusion: This in vitro study has given the primary evidence that the flower extract of Bauhinia blakeana. D., has the anti-urolithiatic activity.

Keywords: Anti-urolithiatic activity, Urolithiasis, Bauhinia blakeana. D., In vitro, n- Hexane: Methanol (1:1) extract, Neeri tablet.
