Abstract

EVALUATION OF ANTIMICROBIAL ACTIVITY OF COPPER NANOPARTICLES OF MEXICAN MARIGOLD

Bhakti Bang*, Kajal S. Borgade, Dr. R. J. Mandade and Rishikesh K. Kulkarni

ABSTRACT

The emergence of drug-resistant microorganisms has become a global health concern, and there is a pressing need for the development of new and effective antimicrobial agents. Copper nanoparticles have been shown to exhibit strong antimicrobial activity, making them a promising candidate for antimicrobial applications. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of copper nanoparticles synthesized using a green synthesis method with Mexican marigold plant extracts. The copper nanoparticles were characterized for size, shape, and purity using various techniques such as TEM, SEM, XRD, and FTIR. Antimicrobial activity testing was performed by exposing different strains of bacteria and fungi to varying concentrations of the copper nanoparticles and measuring the inhibition zone, MIC, and MBC/MFC. The results showed that the copper nanoparticles synthesized from Mexican marigold exhibited strong antimicrobial activity against the tested microorganisms. The study suggests that copper nanoparticles from Mexican marigold could be a promising antimicrobial agent with potential applications in the healthcare industry. The findings of this research could contribute to the development of new and effective antimicrobial agents to combat drug-resistant microorganisms, ultimately improving public health and well-being.
