Abstract

ROLE OF ROHITAKARISHTA IN MANAGEMENT OF YAKRITA ROGA -A RESEARCH STUDY

ABSTRACT

The prevalence of liver diseases in Ayurveda in day today life is increasing day by day in spite of its high acceptance of folk practices for jaundice in rural India. Liver diseases and its treatment are describe in Ayurveda in dotted form. Yakrit Vridhi(Hepato megaly), Yakrit dalludara, yakritdora, yakrit gata dosa, Yakrit Kshya(Cirrhosis Of Liver), Yakrit Vidradhi(Liver abscess), Yakrit granthi (hepatic cyst) are different disease found in Ayurvedic prose based on its mass, architectures and morphology whereas Kamala, Kumbhakamala, Panaki, Halimala, alasa are clinical features based on the purpose of Liver disease. Role of Tridosa, sapdhatu, Trimala in pathogenesis of yakrit vikara are enumerate in the light of contemporary sciences. Here an attempt has been carried out regarding the role of Rohitakaristha in management of liver disease. Method: 100 patients diagnosed as Yakrit-Vikar in OPD of Dr. Bansal's Ayurvedic kidney and Gastro clinic, Phillaur, Jalandhar, Punjab & Dr. Aggarwal's Ayurvedic Panchkarma and Research Centre, Mohali, Punjab were randomly separated into 2 groups. Group-A was given Rohitakarishta 15ml twice a day empty stomach with plain water and group-B was given Guduchyadi Kwatha 15ml twice in the same manner with Pathyaapathya restriction. The duration of study was two months. Symptoms of Yakrit-Vikar given in Ayurveda were considered before treatment and after treatment for the assessment. Included studies were truly randomized controlled trials. Result: After treatment highly significant results were found in given symptoms such as hepatomegaly, loss of appetite, weakness, fever, Liver function test but group-A was more effective. Conclusion: In the present study Rohitakaristha were found more effective than Guduchyadi Kwatha.
