ABSTRACT

The abnormal lifestyle of a person is grouped under the term "Lifestyle Diseases". Obesity is one of the lifestyle disorders and is defined as an abnormal growth of the adipose tissue. Obesity can be related to sthoulya (obesity) in Ayurveda. It is one of the life-threatening disorders that can be easily managed through ayurvedic treatment. Swedana karma (sudation therapy) removes perspiration from the body as a result of swedana drugs with ushna (hot) and thikshna guna; Bhasma pottali is one of the ruksha swedas (dry), and they share the same guna (property). Sthoulya is one of the main diseases classified as Santarpanottha Vyadhi (nutritional disorder), which emerged as a result of vitiated Kapha and Medas (fat), brought on by the dushti (vitiation) of Medovaha Srotas (channels). The characteristics of the Ushna and Thikshna gunas are opposed to those of the Kapha and Medas gunas. A 39-year-old female patient presented with weight gain over the previous two years; her BMI is 36.3 kg/m2. As well, antropometry was examined. For five days, the patients underwent the Bhasma Pottali procedure, which involves dipping it in Gandharvahasthadi taila. The qualities of Kapha Shamaka (which calms Kapha) and Medohara are present in both bhasma and kulattha drugs. Therefore, following the Bhasma Pottali procedure, the patients' BMI and anthropometric measurements decreased.
