Abstract

RECURRENT UPPER RESPIRATORY TRACT INFECTIONS IN CHILDREN AND PRATHIMARSHA NASYA- A SINGLE CASE STUDY

ABSTRACT

Kaumarabhrithya is one among the eight clinical specialities in Ayurveda which deals with children and their diseases. Childhood being the Kapha predominant age, children are more often to suffer with various Pranavaha Srotho Vikaras. Recurrent upper respiratory tract infection is one such condition, which may affect the overall growth and development of children. Due to anatomical and physiological limitations in upper respiratory system of children recurrent infections are a major concern. Currently available treatments with antibiotics and antihistamines cannot completely cure the condition and in addition its frequent usage will leads to drug resistance and can cause many health hazards.[1] Nasya Karma is a treatment procedure in which the medicine is administered through nostrils. Pratimarsha type of Nasya is one which can be administered to children without much complications and strict regimens. Anuthailam is a widely used ayurvedic Nasya formulation for various ailments. With the combined effects of procedural efficacy and the efficacy of formulation used, showed a marked improvement in the presenting complaints.
