ABSTRACT

Aim: To examine the in-vivo anti-infammatory activity of phytochemical compounds and pharmacological evaluation of ethyl acetate extract of aerial parts of Euphorbia nivulia plant. Method: the shade dried aerial parts of Euphorbia nivulia plant was extracted with pet.ether, ethyl acetate and ethanol by continuous hot percolation method using soxhlet apparatus. Results: The percentage yield of different solvent extract was petroleum ether (1.30 % w/w), ethyl acetate (1.44 % w/w) and ethanol (3.63 % w/w). The ethyl acetate extracts presence of different phytochemical compounds like alkaloids, carbohydrate, glycosides, tannins, quinones and Anthraquinones. The absence of different phytochemical compounds like terpenoids, proteins, amino acids, steroids, flavonoids, phenols and sponins. In- vivo anti-inflammatory activity was carried out in carrageenan induced acute paw edema models. Anti-inflammatory action of test extract was compared with standard (Diclofenac sodium 10mg/kg) and paw volume is measured by plethysmometer that interval of 0 minutes, 30 minutes, 1hr, 2hr, 3hr, 4hr. Right paw was test and left paw was control. The percentage difference in the right and left paw volume of each animal of control drug treated and standard were compared and mean percentage in paw volume and percentage edema inhibition by the test extract were noted. It was found that our test extract poses anti-inflammatory activity. Conclusion: To investigate the biological activity of Euphorbia nivulia in-vivo anti-inflammatory study of the ethyl acetate extract of Euphorbia nivulia has been analysed. The plant show significant anti-inflammatory activity. Statistical analyses were also found to be significant.

Keywords: Anti-inflammatort activity, Diclofenac sodium, Ethyl acetate extract, Euphorbia nivulia and Phytochemical compounds.
