SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION OF 8-HYDROXYQUINOLINE INCORPORATED SCHIFF BASES AS ANTIMICROBIAL AGENTS

ABSTRACT

A series of new 8-hydroxyquinoline incorporated Schiff bases (5a-l) were synthesized by using conventional synthetic methods. These compounds were tested for their antimicrobial and antifungal activity. The results of the antimicrobial and antifungal activity revealed that these compounds are showing good activity against all the four bacterial and two fungal strains. The result exhibited that the compounds 5b, 5g and 5h are giving highest inhibition activity against all the bacterial and fungal strains. It is anticipated that these compound will be emerged as promising antimicrobial agents on further investigation.
