A REVIEW ON ANTIDIABETIC EFFECTS OF CLERODENDRUM VISCOSUM

ABSTRACT

Diabetes mellitus is a life-threatening, persistent condition that arises when either the pancreas does not create enough insulin or the body is unable to properly utilize insulin. Diabetic patients have traditionally relied on herbal treatments for the management of their condition. In this study the plant Clerodendrum viscosum was chosen as the subject. Roots and leaves of clerodendrum viscosum were used for evaluation. The purpose of this article is to determine whether or whether not a methanolic extract of Clerodendrum viscosum roots has anti-diabetic properties. In this paper we also examine the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of Clerodendrum viscosum Vent.
