ABSTRACT
An attempt to develop transdermal therapeutic system for Simvastatin calcium using polymers like HPMC, EC, and ERS100 was carried out for the purpose of attaining maximum bioavailability by tress passing pre-systemic hepatic metabolism. The compatibility studies using TLC and IR spectral studies revealed the absence of interaction between the drug and the polymer. The formulated patches were evaluated for the physico-chemical parameters, in vitro drug release studies, skin irritation studies and stability studies. Since the results are encouraging for the formulation T8, the proper technique should be applied for commercial and mass production of the same formulation. However long term pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic studies should be
undertaken to establish the usefulness of these patches.
Keywords: Transdermal delivery systems, patches, hepatic metabolism, IR analysis.
