PHARMACOGNOSTICAL AND PHARMACEUTICAL ANALYSIS OF KAMADUDHA RASA - AN AYURVEDIC HERBO-MINERAL FORMULATION FOR ARDHAVABHEDAKA (MIGRAINE) ASSOCIATED WITH GASTRIC DISTURBANCES

ABSTRACT
Background: Kamadudha Rasa is indicated for management of Shirahshoola by Swami Krushnalaji maharaja in Rasa Tantra Sara Va Siddha Prayoga Sangraha. So for initialization of standardization and assurance of the quality of herbal compounds, pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical analysis should be done. Methods: Kamadudha Rasa was subjected to microscopic evaluation for pharmacognostical and physiochemical analysis like loss on drying, ash value, acid insoluble ash, proportion of components like calcium, magnesium and iron. Results: Pharmacognostical study showed the presence of starch
granules of Guduchi Satva in Kamadudha Rasa. In pharmaceutical study, preliminary physiochemical analysis showed that loss on drying 0.183%w/w, ash value 56.19%w/w, acid insoluble ash value as 1.46% and presence of magnesium- 3.8%, calcium- 32.4% and iron- 11.4%. Conclusions: Pharmacognostical and physico-chemical observations revealed the specific characteristics of active constituents of Kamadudha Rasa and confirmed the purity and genuinity of the drug.
