JASMINUM MULTIFLORUM (BURM.) ANDR - A PROMISING DRUG FOR FUTURE

ABSTRACT
Jasminum multiflorum is an ornamental shrub native to India and south eastern Asia, widely grown across the tropics for its white, mildly scented flowers. Several health problems such as fever, cough, indolent ulcer, abdominal distension, biliary infection can be treated by the plant Jasminum multiflorum (Burm.) Andr and usually the leaves, roots and the flowers are used traditionally. In addition to the above, the plant can be also used to clean the kidney waste. The antioxidant activity is found predominantly in the leaves and thus provides a wide range of protective action on the body. The aroma producing compounds such as eugenol, benzyl benzoate, farnesol, methyl palmitate and methyl salicylate in the oil produced by the flowers
provides them an important role in the cosmetic and perfume industry. In this article, review of the important chemical constituents and proven pharmacological activities are discussed.
