ABSTRACT The pharmaceutical formulation is developed in such a way that they can deliver the active ingredients or medicaments to the targeted site, topical application and provide therapeutic effects. One such application method is an ointment. Ointment is a semisolid preparation containing therapeutic or medicinal substances that can be easily applied topically or over the skin. Ointments are divided into two types one is medicated ointment another non-medicated ointment. Medicated ointment is medicated either dissolved or dispersed in a vehicle as fine powder e.g. steroids. The non-medicated ointments are used for the physical effects such as protectants, emollients or lubricants. Ointment bases are used for their physical effects or as vehicles for medicated ointments.
