Abstract

A TRADITIONAL THERAPEUTIC REVIEW OF KANTAKARI (SOLANUM XANTHOCARPUM) FROM CLASSICAL AYURVEDIC TEXTS

ABSTRACT

Solanum xanthocarpum is one of the renowned medicinal plant in Ayurveda to subside a number of disease in Ayurvedic field. It is native plant of Solanaceae family. In this review article an attempt has been done to described classical categorization, morphology, Raspanchaka, Synonyms, Karma, indications and Therapeutic importance of kantakari in Ayurveda. It is a plant with many benefits because of its chemical and therapeutic properties. This paper presented a comprehensive review of Solanum xanthocarpum especially its pharmacological actions and therapeutic importance in Ayurveda on the basis of traditional texts like Charaka Samhita, and Sushruta Samhita, Vagbhatta and Various Nighantus as well as modern literatures.
