ABSTRACT

Mucoadhesive microspheres with a size of 1-1000 millimetre diameter associated consisting either entirely of a mucoadhesive chemical compound or having an outer coating and therefore the combination of mucoadhesive properties with microspheres produce other blessings, Aceclofenac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a strong inhibitor of the enzyme cyclooxygenase (COX), which is involved in the formation of prostaglandins. a mucoadhesive biopolymer chitosan microsphere was formulated with the aim of increasing drug efficacy. The aceclofenac microsphere was prepared by the o/w/o emulsification cross-linking method. Different drug: polymer ratios were studied and it was found that microspheres with a ratio of 1:4 were superior in terms of drug content.and capture efficiency. In vitro drug release profiles indicated maximal drug release. The extent of mucoadhesion and ex-vivo drug permeation was studied using a porcine intestinal mucosa sample. The microspheres were retained at intestinal mucosa within 12 hours. During surface electron microscopic studies, it was observed that the surface of the selected microsphere formulation is uneven. infrared spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry studies showed that there was no major interaction between the drug and the polymer used. that mucoadhesive microspheres could be a suitable dose to improve gastric retention and efficacy of aceclofenac.

Keywords: mucoadhsesive microsphere, preparations, characterization, aceclofenac, chitosn, applications.
