ABSTRACT
Constipation is a more prevalent GIT disorderthat affects adults and is a common problem affecting 2–27% of the general population in Western countries. The plant is reported to have analgesic, hepatoprotective, hypoglycemic activity, wound healing activity, anti-diabetic, anti-diarrhoeal, and anticonvulsant activity. Seed powder is used orally with water as aphrodisiac and laxative. However, laxative activity of the seeds of Abutilon Indicum (AI) was not evaluated. The present study was planned to evaluate the laxative activity of seeds powder of Abutilon indicum. Laxative activity was evaluated by
weighing the stools and In-vitro GIT motility test. The results showed that an oral administration of the SSAI produced significant increased in faeces output of rats and GIT motility. It was concluded that this study justify the use of seeds of AI as laxative in traditional medicine.
