ABSTRACT

Introduction: Aim and Object Polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most common endocrine metabolic & reproductive disorder seen among women in reproductive age.[1] PCO is a syndrome of ovarian dysfunction along with the cardinal feature of Hyperandrogenism and Polycystic ovarian Morphology. To treat the PCOS Kulatthadi Kashaya was taken from Sahasra Yogam. well known text of Ayurveda. The present work microbiological studies, pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical evaluation was carried out to standardize the finished product Kulatthadi Kashaya to confirm its identity, quality and purity. Methodology: The study includes the preparation of Kulatthadi Kashaya following all SOPs using raw drugs, which were previously authenticated Microbiological studies, Pharmacognostical and pharmaceutical parameters, high-Performance thin layer chromatography has been performed as per standard method. Results: Microbiological study for Kulatthadi Kashaya revealed absence of any microbial contamination under smear and culture study in aerobic atmosphere after 150 days of sample been prepared Kulatthadi Kashaya is light brown in colour with characteristic odour and astringent in taste. The pharmacognostical study reveals the presence of annular vessels, compound starch, crystal fibres, rhomboidal crystal, rosette crystal, lignified sclerid, parenchymalc cell of different ingredients. etc. pharmaceutical analysis showed that the loss on drying value was 7.52%, ash value was 5.7%w/w, water soluble extract was 6.29%, methanol soluble was 3.57%, and pH is 6.5 Methanolic extract of Kulatthadi Kashaya shows presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannin, sugar, steroids, saponin, cardiac glycosides and carbohydrates. HPTLC fingerprinting profile of Kulatthadi Kashaya revealed 9 spots at 254 nm and 8 spots at 366nm. Conclusion: The present investigation will be helpful in assessing the Microbiological, pharmacognostical, phytochemical analysis and laying down pharmacopoeial standards for Kulatthadi Kashaya.
