REVIEW OF GARA VISHA ADHISTHANAS W.S.R. TO COSMETIC TOXICITY

ABSTRACT

Agadatantra is one of Astangas of Ayurveda which is having utmost importance in today’s modern era, as humans are exposed to various types of Visha in some way or the other. Present day changing lifestyle along with exposure to poisonsmild to severe) in form of incompatible food, preservatives, food coloring agents, pesticide induced fruits and vegetables, Cosmetics all lead to Gara Visha. The widespread use of Cosmetic products has become an issue of public concern, due to the adverse effects on the body. Some of the Gara Visha adhisthanas can be co-related to Cosmetic Toxicity. Ill-effects of these Cosmetics can be well explained under context of Gara Visha adhisthana lakshanas. Susrutha Acharya describes in Kalpa sthana “Annaraksha kalpa adhyaya” about the various possibilities of contracting Poison from the objects used for massage over body, skin & hair ie. Cosmetics on daily basis. Also prescribes specific Agadas & specific treatments in each of the conditions. There is a need to conduct more research works in future, in order to establish the facts explained by Susrutha Acharya regarding Cosmetic Toxicity management, for it’s universal acceptance.
