A PROCEDURE OF JALAUKAVACHARAN (LEECH APPLICATION)

ABSTRACT

Acharyas have again and again quoted that regarding the treatment of Skin diseases, Raktamokshana (blood letting) should be considered as the supreme method out of many Shodhana karma,. There are so many methods are offered which are act as blood purificatory process and hence helpful in Rakta pradoshaja Vyadhi like Kushtha. (Ch. Su. 24/18, Ch. Chi. 7/39, 40, Su. Chi. 9/6, 43) Sushruta counts the benefits of Raktamokshana for the Chikitsa purpose, it is not only purifies the channels but also let the other parts become free from disease and action is faster than other remedies. (Su. Chi. 1/44) In this competitive and fast era, perceptive society is now much aware with the science and its utilities, so old fashioned process advised by texts may not apply with full flagged. The careful modulation of blood letting, using modern technique can treat many disease were all other means fail. Thus, one should not discard the method merely on the basis that it will not let the body to negative condition.
