AN OUTLOOK OF AGNIKARMA THE CONTEXT OF AYURVEDA WITH CORRELATION IN MODERN SCIENCE

ABSTRACT
Ayurveda, being an ancient Indian medicinal system, has beautifully coined its own aims and objectives very clearly. Health should be the first priority of human and so as to maintain the good health and to cure diseased condition, our ancient acharya developes various types of treatments e.g. medicinal, surgical etc. Agnikarma is one of the imperative para surgical treatments comprehensively practiced in Vata-Kapha main diseases. It is simple, day care procedure and is less invasive and most significantly highly active. For the situations vacillating from common headache to various neoplastic situations, Agnikarma is preferred. Specifically, Agnikarma is broadly practiced
for several forms of Musculoskeletal situations like osteoarthritis, sciatica, IVDP, spondylosis, spondylolisthesis, tennis elbow, frozen shoulder, etc. Instruments or Materials chosen for execution Agnikarma are termed as Dahanopakaranas (cautery devices). The basic principle on which Agnikarma works is transferal of thermal energy to bring changes in disease entity or stage of disease using specific strategies for specific tissues involved. But in day today practice usually used Agnikarma instruments are Pancha Dhatu Shalaka, needles (Suchi Agnikarma), Cautery probes of Thermal Cautery Machine while other instruments are not actively used in clinical practice. Mechanism of action of Agnikarma is not well defined. It acts on multifactorial level in the body. Mainly it is indicated in the disease caused by vata and kapha because of the its tikshna, ushna, vikasi, properties to remove strotorodha. Properly performed Agnikarma by skilled surgeon will give excellent results on the other hand improperly performed will lead to various complications.
