ABSTRACT
Myocardial infarction, characterized by acute necrosis of the myocardium, is one of the cardiac pathologies cited by the population as a hertache. The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of aqueous extract of D. brazzeï Cogn. roots (Melastomataceae) on myocardial infarction (MI) in wistar rats. For this purpose, the method of induction of MI in wistar rats by doxorubicin was used. At the doses studied, the results obtained show that this extract significantly (p < 0.01) opposes the increase in serum biomarkers (cardiac Troponin I, CK-MB and LDH) of this pathology, the variations in the number of white and red blood cells and protects against doxorubicin-induced
myocardial necrosis. In addition, it caused antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, significantly (p < 0.001) reducing the levels of TNF-α and IL1-β; which could explain the effect of this extract against MI.
