Abstract

THE CONSEQUENCES OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON MENTAL HEALTH AND SOCIAL LIFE

ABSTRACT

As a major virus outbreak in the 21st century, the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has led to unprecedented risk to mental health globally. The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, associated with the economic outcome of non-pharmaceutical interference such as lockdown, has led to mental health consequence among people worldwide. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyses the personal, social and psychological impact of COVID - 19 on the mental health. The background to understand the pattern in issues related to mental health during the pandemic. While psychological support is being provided to patients, the general public's mental health requires significant attention as well. This systematic review aims to synthesize extant literature that reports on the effects of COVID-19 on psychological outcomes of the general population and its associated risk factors. Important findings are discussed in the present review, including the social stigma in older people associated with depict COVID-19 as the disease of the elderly, and the limited psychological impact of COVID-19 in the severely mentally ill, alongside the response of the mental healthcare systems globally to this unparalleled public health crisis. The important lessons to be learnt so far can help formulate individual mental health recommendations, as well as improved intervention and prevention public health strategies. Background: Public health concern is increasing with recent rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the world. To curb this pandemic, world is facing some forms of lockdown, encouraging people to implement social distancing so as to reduce interactions between people which could eventually reduce the possibilities of new infection; however, it has affected the overall physical, mental, social and spiritual health of the people. Objective: Our study aims to conduct a timely assessment of impact of Covid-19 lockdown on mental health.
