The present modern treatment for BPH includes use of alpha blockers and 5 alpha reductase inhibitors. In operative management various procedures are done out of which TURP is most commonly used. However both conservative and operative treatments have various side effects and operative treatment gives considerable financial burden to patient. Though there is a need of alternative and cost effective treatment for BPH. In Ayurveda urinary diseases are described under the title of mootraghata, there are 12 types of mootraghata. Vatashthila is one of them, many research scholars considers vatashthila as BPH as it somewhat resembles with BPH. Samanya chikitsa i.e. general treatment of mootraghata includes Ghrita and Uttarbasti so uttarbasti and ghrita paan are traditionally mentioned ayurvedic chikitsa hence it may avoid surgery and improves quality of life of patient and also may provide alternative treatment option for BPH. Hence Dhanyak Gokshur ghrita paan and Varunadya tail uttarbasti are used in this trial to evaluate combination effect in BPH.
