REVIEW ON CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY OF 5 – FLUOROURACIL – MECHANISM OF ACTION, RESISTANCE, TOXICITY AND CLINICAL USE

ABSTRACT This is exactly the 60th year of 5 – Fluorouracil playing crucial role in cancer chemotherapy. Since its approval on 1962, 5 -FU has developed into a key agent in treating a wide range of tumors, including all gastrointestinal cancers, breast cancers, bladder cancers, head and neck cancers. Additionally, a novel approach to cancer chemotherapy has emerged that uses pharmacomodulation and biochemical modulation of 5-FU to boost therapeutic efficacy.
