Abstract

CRITICAL REVIEW ON SHWASKASCHINTAMANI RASA IN BRONCHIAL ASTHMA W.S.R TAMAK SHWAS

ABSTRACT

Bronchial Asthma is a respiratory tract disease which affects lung. In this disease airways become inflamed, narrow due to production of extra secretion of mucus. It can be a major problem which can interferes with daily activities of a person, and it may cause life threatening asthma attack. Bronchial asthma is a global health problem. According to World Health Organisation, 300 million people suffering from asthma and 2.55 lacs people died due to asthma. It is very common disease found in all age groups. Due to similar sign and symptoms, bronchial asthma can be corelated with tamak shwas. Shwaskaschintamani Rasa is a polyherbomineral drugs which was mentioned in Bhaishajya ratnavali. It is mentioned in Hikka shwasrogadhikar. As bronchial asthma is a common disease which affects 7-10% of children and 5% of adults. Thus, an attempt has been made to evaluate the probable efficacy of poly Herbo-mineral preparation Shwaskaschintamani Rasa in Bronchial Asthma w.s.r. Tamak Shwas. Aim: To evaluate the role of Shwaskaschintamani Rasa in Bronchial Asthma w.s.r. Tamak Shwas. Objective: To study on the concept of Tamaka shwasa mentioned in Ayurvedic classics. To understand Tamaka Shwasa under the light of Modern science as Bronchial asthma. To study of mechanism of action of Shwaskaschintamani Rasa on Tamak Shwas. Materials and Methods: The Ayurvedic classics, research articles, online journals were thoroughly reviewed to complete relevant and scientific data about Shwaskaschintamani Rasa and its contents. Observation: The review of ayurvedic classics, research articles, online journals have proved the curative activity of ingredients of Shwaskaschintamani Rasa. Conclusion: Shwaskaschintamani Rasa is a Kharaliya Rasayana. It is a herbomineral preparation which mainly contains Shuddha Parad, Makshik Bhasma, Swarna Bhasma, Motibhasma, Shuddha Gandhaka, Abhraka Bhasma, Loha Bhasma as main content and it also contains Kantakari swaras, Aja dugdha, Yashtimadhu kwath as Bhavana Dravya. This review presents collective knowledge of its pharmacological, therapeutic action and activity. Shwaskaschintamani Rasa is found useful for bronchial asthma. Thus, Shwaskaschintamani Rasa can be safely prescribed to the patients suffering from tamak shwas.
