THE PHARMACIST ROLE: COUNSELING OF ASTHMA PATIENT

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Patient counseling is interpersonal communication between the pharmacist and the patient regarding illness, medications, and lifestyle changes. Body: Asthma is characterized by chronic airway inflammation, bronchial hypersensitivity, and reversible airway obstruction. Educating the patients about the optimal use of medicines is an important strategy for improving asthma control. Pharmacists are the clinical expertise to educate patients about the pathology and treatment of asthma, including training on inhalation techniques, and address patient concerns about the potential side effects of medications. Conclusion: Therefore, pharmacists are in a unique position to ensure optimal clinical outcomes for asthma patients improving adherence to treatment. There are several studies around the world that show positive results in asthma pharmacist-led counseling.
