QUALITY CONTROL ANALYSIS AND ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT BRANDS OF LACOSAMIDE

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this study is to conduct quality control testing of different brands of lacosamide It involves weight variation test, Frability test, Hardness test, thickness test, disintegration test, dissolution test. Four brands of lacosamide were used named (Lacopsy100, lacoset 150, lacosam 50, laconext 100). Quality control test results for 4 brands of lacosamide were found under the acceptance range except Frability test. In terms of weight variation, four brands Lacopsy100, lacoset 150, lacosam 50, laconext 100 have an above the mean weight variation are 1.21%,3.62%,2.18%and 2.62% respectively. The lower mean weight variation are - 2.53%, -2.59%, -12.4%, -3.78% respectively, which are within 5% standard limit of USP. Hardness test shows the average of 7.83kg, 5.14kg,6.83kg, 6.66kg which is under the acceptable range of 4-10 kg. Thickness test was also found in acceptance range. The disintegration test shows that four brands fall within a 30-minute time interval segment with disintegration time calculated 9min, 5mins, 4 mins, 20 mins, in distilled water and 9 mins, 2 mins, 6 mins, 25 mins in Hcl respectively. Lacoset 150 brand has drug Dissolution percentage of 99.69% within 30 mins sampling time interval.
