FORMULATION, DEVELOPMENT AND EVALUATION OF BLOOD-GLUCOSE LOWERING NUTRACEUTICAL PRODUCT

ABSTRACT
Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graceum) is known for its medicinal qualities such as antidiabetic, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic and immunological activities. It is hypothesized that dietary supplementation with Fenugreek modulates glucose homeostasis and prevents diabetes mellitus in people with prediabetes. There are formulations were prepared from the fenugreek seed extract with various concentrations. Finished formulations were evaluated for weight variation, disintegration time, drug content (flavonoid), in-vitro drug release activity studies. Nutraceutical tablets of 500 g fenugreek/day in pre-diabetes was associated with lower conversion to
diabetes with no adverse effects and beneficial due to its decreased insulin resistance. It is concluded that formulation of fenugreek seed extracts into nutraceutical tablet dosage form may be more desirable, advantageous and therapeutically more beneficial for the treatment of diabetes.
