Abstract

“ROGAH SARVEAPI MANDAGNOU” WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO ARSHA VYADHI: AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

Dr.Shaikh Akhil Shaikh Chand* and Dr. Tabassum Kauser Iqbal Ahmed Khan

ABSTRACT

The health of digestive system i.e. Agni is the most important factor for fitness and wellbeing of individuals. Agni accomplish digestion, absorption and assimilation of ingested food, which is mandatory for the maintenance of life. Acharyas have described that Mandagni (hypofunctioning of Agni) is the root cause of almost diseases. Rogah Sarveapi Mandagnou[1] It is the condition from which many other disease conditions arise. Healthy digestion indicates a healthy life and unhealthy digestion leads to an unhealthy life. If digestion is healthy and strong, body can produce healthy tissues i.e. Dhatu. Normal formation of Dhatu depends on normal functioning of that Dhatwagni. Due to weakness of Agni, digestion is weak and Dhatu become weak and susceptible to diseases. Agnimandya is one of the important Hetu of Arsha Vyadhi according to all Acharyas.[2][3][4] According to Acharya Charaka, Arsha is an abnormal fleshy growth in anorectal region. This type of fleshy growths in other regions like Karna, Nasa etc are called Adhimamsa.[5] Vagbhat said that Arsha, the fleshy projections that create Gudamarga Sanga (obstruction in anal region), kills the patient like an enemy does.[6] Arsha is such a grave disease, for which Acharya Sushruta included it in Ashta Mahagada, showing the gravity of this disease.[7]
