Mahabaleshwar and Navneet Yadav*

ABSTRACT

Background: Wounds and Ulcers managements are fundamental to the practice of surgery. However, wound healing is a challenge faced in the medical field since the time of Vedas. Many procedures and formulations for the management of Vrana were practiced by our Acharyas from ancient period and also in modern era. Both Ayurvedic and contemporary systems of medicine carried out many studies which came up with different outcomes. In Sushruta Samhita Acharya detailed about Vrana, Dushtavrana in all its attributes and explained 60 treatment modalities by the name of Shashtiupakrama, covering all management aspect from its occurrence to its total healing is mentioned. Though debridement of unhealthy granulation tissue and promote good circulations to the area are the prime importance in managing non healing ulcers and wounds. For these different kinds of debridement techniques and advanced therapies like skin graft, chorion graft is practiced in modern science, sometimes these methods are not sufficient and affordable too. Here comes the acceptance of Ayurvedic concepts and principles of treatment modalities explained and in the management of ulcers. The present study is to compare the effect of Anantamula Malahara and Nimba kalka lepa in the management of Dushta Vrana. The present study intended to offer safe, simple and economic management and evaluate the efficacy in healing ulcer. Objectives: (1) To evaluate the efficacy of Anantamula Malahara in the management of Dushta vrana. (2) To evaluate the efficacy of Nimba kalka lepa in the management of Dushta vrana. (3) To compare the efficacy of Anantamula Malahara and Nimba kalka lepa in the management of Dushta vrana. Method: The outcome of the study is evaluated clinically on a minimum of 60 patients having Dushta Vrana. The dressing is done once daily if the bandage doesn’t get wet completely within 24 hours. The treatment is continued upto the healing of Vrana or up to 63 days at an interval of 7 days. Result: In this clinical study, both Group A and Group B showed highly significant results in all attributes of Dushta Vrana, but on comparison there is no statistically significant difference between the two groups in all attributes.
