Abstract

POST COVID-19: A CUE TO UNDERSTAND THROUGH AYURVEDA

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major health crisis that has changed the life of millions globally. The problems faced by survivors of COVID-19 after recovery is getting reported progressively increasing after 2nd wave of the pandemic in India. A study has reported that high proportion of individuals of COVID-19 recovered reported fatigue, dyspnea, joint pain, cognitive impairment, disturbed sleep and chest pain.[3] Present day no Medical science has found satisfactory result in Post COVID-19 illness. Therefore, there is urgent need to understand the long term impact of COVID-19 in terms of Ayurveda, in order to plan efficient interventions to alleviate the sufferings, in terms of disease/ treatment induced complications, secondary prevention, and mental / psycho-social impact and to improve overall quality of life. Ayurveda being the science of life, documented pandemic under the context of Janapadodhwamsa. Shosha is the condition which develops as the complication to jwara, yakshma, jwraratisaar. It develops as the complication to main diseases having its poorva roopas (premonitory symptoms) as shwasa (breathlessness), kasa (cough), Angasada (myalgia), Kaphasamsrava (expectoration) etc. It exhibits tridosha symptoms based on amshaamsha vikalpa of aggravated doshas. This condition demands paraspara viruddha upakram (opposite treatment principles) in order to alleviate prakupita tridoshas, hence considered as kruchra saasdhya.[6] This condition can be understood as the Post COVID-19 condition in Ayurveda.
