PRAGMATIC REVIEW OF AYURVEDIC DRUGS CONTRAINDICATED DURING PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

ABSTRACT
The phase of pregnancy and lactation are the most crucial ones in women’s life. Ayurveda, the ancient medical science is yet growing and establishing in this modern world. Despite the more advanced modern medical science, Ayurveda is attracting pregnant and postpartum individuals for more natural, traditional and safer ante-natal and postnatal care. At this point, it becomes important for an Ayurvedic physician to think of safety and rationality in prescribing for the ante-natal and postnatal care or any other ailment, the patient comes for. The Rasapanchaka of drugs are to be kept in mind with respect to the masanumasika garbha vruddhi. The Pharmacodynamics,
Phamacokinetics and toxicological studies of Ayurveda drugs are the areas for research in order to establish Ayurvedic drugs in the grounds of evidence based medicine, which helps in building the faith and in gaining the confidence of patient groups on Ayurvedic system.
