ABSTRACT
Udarda prashamana mahakashaya is one of the 50 mahakashayas mentioned by Acharya Charaka in the Charaka Samhita. Each mahakashaya is group of 10 drugs showing similar pharmacological activity indicated for a specific condition. Here, Udarda is a condition mentioned in the Ayurvedic texts having signs and symptoms similar to that of urticaria. Urticaria is a vascular reaction of the skin representing localised oedema which manifests as an itchy, red and raised rash. The drugs of the Udarda prashamana mahakashaya act by pacifying the deranged doshas causing the disease. There still arises a need to evaluate the pharmacological aspect of these drugs in the management of Udarda. In similar view, the current study intends to
review the anti-allergic properties as well as the doshaja action of the 10 herbs of the mahakashaya in the management of Udarda.
Keywords: Udarda, Urticaria, Anti-allergic activity, Udarda prashamana Mahakashaya.
