Abstract

A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW ON FILM FORMING TOPICAL SPRAY DRUG DELIVERY

Shital K. Tilekar*, Sadikali F. Sayyad and Bharati K. Phopse

ABSTRACT

When compared to traditional topical preparations, film-forming sprays can provide consistent medication distribution and dose, enhanced bioavailability, reduced irritation, continuous drug release, and rapid wound healing through moisture control. Polymers and excipients in film-forming sprays improve the properties of preparations and increase the stability of active substances. Each polymer and excipient will yield films with distinct characteristics. As a result, different types of polymers and excipients, as well as their assessment standards, must be investigated in order to develop a better film-forming spray. The literature review covered studies on polymers as film-forming matrices and the use of these sprays for medicinal purposes or potential medical applications. The types and concentrations of polymers and excipients, sprayer types, evaluations, and essential criteria in determining spray ability and film properties are all discussed in this article. Natural and manmade polymers with in situ film or viscoelastic qualities can be employed to optimised topical medication administration, according to the review.

Keywords: Topical medication delivery, Film-forming solution, Film-forming polymer.
