Undigested food forms a vitiated material called „Aama‟ which act like toxins for whole body and produce various disorders. As a result of Dushti of Pachakagni and Samana Vayu, Grahani becomes impaired. Nidana Panchaka means five sub types i.e. Nidana, Purvvarupa, Rupa, Upshaya and Samprapti. Here Nidana is the causative factor of the disease. The symptoms which are produced during the process of Sthana Samshrya by vitiated Doshas are called Purvarupa. These symptoms are produced before the actual manifestation of the disease. One can make an early
diagnosis with the help of knowledge of Purvarupa. The same characteristic and features appearing clearly after Purvarupa is called as Rupa. It gives clear features of diseases. One can distinguishes between diseases on the basis of Rupa. All the stages from infection to the development of the disease are collectively called as Samprapti. Medicines, diet and daily regimen producing beneficial effects by acting directly or indirectly against causative factors is known as Upshaya.
